Canning and Pitt Associates (incorporated 1991) is a consulting firm specializing in socio-economic analysis and assessment, environmental impact
assessment and management, consultations, data analysis and planning, particularly for the marine environment and fisheries.
Much of the firm's work has been for the petroleum industry - for clients like the Canadian Association of Petroleum
Producers (CAPP), Exxon-Mobil, Hibernia, Petro-Canada, Hunt Oil, Sable Offshore
Energy, ChevronTexaco, ConocoPhillips/Gulf Oil, CNRL, NTL, PanCanadian/EnCana, Husky and Talisman Energy, but we have also worked
(or are working) on some other big projects, like the Northumberland Strait
Crossing Project (Prince Edward Island Confederation Bridge), the Voisey's Bay nickle development (Vale-INCO), and the Lower Churchill Hydro Electric development.
Other clients include, for example, the Government of Canada (Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Public Works, External Affairs, Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board, Transport Canada, ACOA), the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, Memorial University, the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, fishing associations and unions, economic development agencies and Crown corporations. Canning & Pitt Inc. also works in quite a
few other areas, such as the preparation (and editing) of public consultation, taskforce, white paper and Royal Commission reports, fisheries policy, oil and gas policy, GIS mapping, heritage and tourism development, conferences, economic development and program
assessment.
The company also specializes in assisting geophysical
survey (seismic exploration) companies in environmental assessment, mitigation
planning, fisheries liaison and logistical support during surveys. Clients
include such firms as WesternGeco (and formerly Western Geophysical and Geco
Prakla), TGS-NOPEC, GSI, Veritas, PGS and GXT.
The firm has worked on projects throughout Atlantic Canada, Quebec, British Columbia, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and in the US, the Caribbean, Greenland, Scotland, Russia, Denmark and elsewhere.
